Reza Bagherzadeh Khorsani was a bright light that lit up the lives of those he came into contact with. Model, friend, family man, Khorsani’s Adonis good looks were only surpassed by his good nature and kind soul. He was also good friends with Valerio Moda designer Ali Mokhtarian and modeled in Valerio Moda’s S/S 2014 show last year. “Reza was handsome and always well-dressed,” says Mokhtarian. “He truly encapsulated the image he portrayed as a model,” he continues. Khorsani’s true beauty, he adds, came directly from his heart. Sadly, Khorsani’s light was extinguished in February, leaving friends and family devastated. “His passing has left a permanent hole in our hearts,” says his friend, still reeling from the painful loss. Reza Khorsani’s memory lives on forever with his spirit rising like the Phoenix within Valerio Moda’s S/S 2015 collection which is inspired by, and dedicated to, him.

Valerio Moda’s Return to the Runway
After taking a season off, Valerio Moda presented a much anticipated spring/summer collection at Vancouver Fashion Week. The venerable fashion house once again is proving why it is a world class brand. Always on the cutting edge of leather work and accentuating the male silhouette to refinement, Valerio Moda is on the cusp of being up there with the greats such as Hugo Boss, Tom Ford for Gucci, Ermenegildo Zegna and Versace. Ali Mokhtarian employs only the finest leathers from Italy to create his collections. This season saw a mix of geometric shapes in the stitching. The symbiotic relationship between slim silhouettes and relaxed fits is no surprise – both are trending on the runways.
In a sea of hipster and vintage regalia, Valerio Moda has the monopoly on classic style that men of a certain class, sophistication and aesthetic gravitate towards. The designs are a cinematic throwback to the Golden Age of Hollywood where men dressed to impress 24/7, but always with a modern twist. As is his modus operandi, Mokhtarian spares no expense or detail in his designs. This season we see brown suede shirts and cardigans, soft leather in dark greens and blues and black; tangerine shows up to add that pop of colour as does a scarlet red leather and wool cardigan. Perforated leather is something of a signature look in Mokhtarian’s leather wear, as is using two types of leather in one garment. Two new details have emerged in this collection: double zippers that allow the wearer to zip up – or down – from either top or bottom; the tuxedo shirt gets a makeover with fabric intricately wrapped around one side of the arm, shoulder and torso to match the leather jacket with similar styling. Stitched to perfection, nobody does sumptuous leather artistry like Valerio Moda.
